My Artistic Journey So Far

As far back as my earliest childhood memories, I can remember being fascinated and exhilarated by the diversity of life around me. From different environments, to animals, to cultures and people; I have always embraced the strange, the beautiful, and the macabre as parts of this world’s rich and exciting variety. Learning to draw allowed me to capture some of the fascinating forms in life, as well as create new forms from my imagination.

In gradeschool I took honors and AP art classes to improve my techniques, but at the same time I shied away from conventional projects. My main interest was in things strange, organic, and full of life. As much as I loved drawing living things, I yearned to bring them to life with movement, which is what drew me to the field of animation. In college I took both traditional animation and digital animation courses at Brigham Young University and University of North Carolina at Asheville. Animation is a step further into my passion for life; it allows me to give the semblence of life and emotion to characters and creatures of my own.

The best thing most artists can hope to do is to leave a lasting impression on those who view their art. Therefore, whether it’s in the field of animation, storyboarding, character design, or illustration, if any of my work inspires greater appreciation for the weird and wonderful variety of life, then I will feel that I have accomplished something worthwhile.
